Protected Sites Data held in the Integrated Sites Information System (ISIS) Database
Dataset providing information on Sites of Special Scientific Importance (SSSIs), Special Areas of Conservation (SACs), Special Protection Areas (SPAs), RAMSAR Sites, Geological Conservation Review Sites (GCRs), Mainre Conservation Zones (MCZs), Local Nature Reserves (LNRs), Marine Nature Reserves (MNRs), National Nature Reserves (NNRs), Biogenetic reserves, Biosphere reserves, National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs). The information varies depending on the designation. SSSIs have site description, PDOs, historical data on notifications, site area and central gri reference, cross refrence sites and responsible officers. Other designations have similar information excluding the PDO list which is only relevant to SSSIs. There are also some Commons with limited data recorded on the system. The purpose of this data capture was to collate information on protected sites in Wales, and provide historical data on designation dates aiding the reporting process for designations in Wales. The dataset is derived from a pre Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) and is now owned, managed and updated by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) and is an ongoing system updated as and when changes occur to a desination or when a new site is designated.

For example, the area figures are a mix of hand measured and digital measurements, the system still refers to 5 regions as opposed to 3 etc.
