FishMap Môn Detailed Habitat Sensitivity Levels
FishMap Môn is a collaborative project between Natural Resources Wales (NRW), the Welsh Government, and the recreational and commercial fisheries sectors. Project Partners include The North Wales Fisherman's Cooperative Limited, Bangor Mussel Producers Limited and The Welsh Federation of Sea Anglers. The project sets out to inform the sustainable management of the Welsh marine environment by collecting and mapping fishing activity and subsequently combining this with information on seabed habitats and their sensitivity to such activities. This data is related to habitat sensitivity. Habitat Sensitivity is based on the resistance and resilience of a habitat to a particular fishing intensity from a fishing gear type. Sensitivity is recorded as Low, Medium or High. The data consists of output generated for nine different gear types - King Scallop Dredging, Queen Scallop Dredging, Mussel Seed Dredging, Light Otter Trawling, Bottom Set Nets, Potting, Sea Angling and Casual and Professional Hand Gathering. There are multiple outputs for Potting and Sea Angling for commercial and recreational sectors. The purpose of this data capture was to examine the spatial extent of fishing activities and the determine the habitats affected by different fishing gear types in an area around Anglesey. A 12 nautical mile buffered zone around the Isle of Anglesey / Ynys Mon, extending from Nefyn in the West, to Colwyn Bay in the East. Due to the sensitivity of fishing intensity related data two versions of the Fishmap Môn habitat sensitivity level data were created, both a detailed and generalised version. This detailed version of the dataset shows the precise locations of the fishing activities, and the data also contains specific information about the fishing activities, and so is restricted to the FishMap Môn Team and certain partners - contact the dataset owner for more information.

FishMap Mon was undertaken as a pilot project giving a general indication of where a limited amount of fishing activity is thought to have occurred at a given time, and its expected impact on marine habitats. This fishing effort dataset was a snap shot in time and may not be representative of current fishing practices in the study area or the rest of Wales. There is a low level of confidence in the data and trail methodology.

The following data is considered OS derived data and is therefore jointly owned by NRW and the Ordnance Survey. This dataset is sensitive and restricted. The sensitive data is the precise locations of fishing activities, and the data also contains specific information about the fishing activities, and so is restricted to the FishMapMon Team and certain partners - contact the dataset owner for more information. Sensitive data must be kept confidential; general release is not permitted due to risk of harm to the environment or third parties. Sensitive data may only be released under an appropriate NRW Licence. Requests should be referred to NRW's Access to Information Officer. Data may be released freely if the sensitive records are removed in advance, or shown only at a coarser scale.
