Fluvial Audit of the River Wye and Tributaries
This dataset consists of the results of a Fluvial Geomorphological Audit of the River Wye and it's Tributaries. The river Wye is one of the largest rivers in England and Wales, and supports a range of rare and threatened habitats and species. The river includes several Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). It is also designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). The purpose of this data capture was to characterise the geomorphology of the watercourses surveyed and to identify key areas for monitoring, management and restoration, particularly in relation to the desired physical habitats for the SAC species. The area covered included 305 km of the River Wye and selected tributaries between Pant Mawr and Hay-on-Wye. Tributaries included Aran, Bachawy, Bachell Brook, Camddwr, Cletwr Brook, Clywedog Brook, Colwyn Brook, Duhonw, Dulas, Dulas Brook, Dulas Llynfi, Edw, Gwenlas Brook, Howey Brook, Ithon, Llaethydy Brook, Llymwynt Brook, Migrams Brook, Mithil Brook, Nant Bwch, Nant yr Offeiriad, rhiwiau Brook, Sgithwen Brook, and Triffrwd.

The rivers included in the study were surveyed on foot. For assessment and analytical purposes, the streams were divided into reaches which show similar geomorphological characteristics. Data was collected with respect to the geomorphological features e.g. flow conditions, bed material and erosion. The data was collected with a detailed photographic record and developed onto a Geographical Information System (GIS) that provides access to visual, textual and photographic information based upon Ordnance Survey grid reference locations. Habitat suitability maps were produced for each designated feature.

However there are third party use restrictions. This dataset contains 'simple derived data' in the form of river bank MapInfo.Tab layers (erosion, bank protection, embankement etc).
