Saltmarsh Features of the Conwy Estuary 2001
This dataset consists of the results from a National Vegetation Classification (NVC) survey used as a basis for community definition in the saltmarsh habitats of the North Conwy Estuary. The principal objective of the survey was to provide a suitable base for future monitoring and also as part of CCW's commitment to reporting on the suitability of the estuary description as a Site of Special Scientific Importance (SSSI) and inclusion into the Menai Strait and Conwy Bay possible Special Area of Conservation (pSAC).

Standard saltmarsh NVC survey methodology was used. Saltmarsh communities were identified by eye, supported by aerial photography, and mapped in the field onto 1:2,500 maps using the Ordnance Survey 1:10,000 Land Plan as a base map. Survey took place along transects, and boundaries were fixed using a hand held GPS to an accuracy of +/- 3m. Quadrats were recorded and species lists developed. Data collected by trained personnel, digitised by contractors, validated by NRW, corrections made by contractors, validated again by NRW, corrections made in-house in conjunction with relevant salt marsh specialist. NRW commissioned survey contributes to an NVC Saltmarsh survey collation (see 'part of' field).
