Storm Petrel (Hydrobates pelagicus) Census of Skokholm and Skomer Special Protection Area (SPA)
Population estimate of storm petrels Hydrobates pelagicus on Skomer in 2003 and 2004, and Skokholm in 2003. The purpose of this data capture was to create a population estimate to provide a baseline for monitoring. As well as establishment of monitoring plots and methods for future monitoring.

Tape playback census was conducted, with repeat visits to a calibration site to calculate response rates. Previous storm petrel surveys have been carried out to different methodologies, but this is the only complete census of both islands using standard tape-playback methods. This is the most reliable census to date, and confidence limits are given for the Skomer estimate. However, data can be influenced by variation in response rates, and further investigation is needed to better understand this variation and associated error. All data is held within the report.
