These collect roost entrance and exit numbers for the bats as well as some limited environmental data. The purpose of this data capture was to obtain reliable population data, in order to relate the changes in bat population and behaviour to changes in the climate and environment in an attempt to understand the factors that limit the geographical ranges of the 2 species. In Wales, Greater Horseshoe Bats breed at the northern limit of their distribution and Lesser Horseshoe Bats breed up to the north coast of Wales where they are fairly common but they are not found at this latitude in England or the mainland of Europe. The sample roosts are within Special Areas of Conservation. The data gives valuable information on the seasonal activity of these bats which can be directly related to management within and around these key roost sites.
