In view of the conservation significance of marine fishes as a major component of the marine and estuarine environment the conservation agencies of the UK have statutory obligations to examine current conservation requirement of the marine fish fauna and to establish and maintain a monitoring programme by which to review their status. Other literature sources were obtained through the National Lending Library inter-library loan scheme.
