Historic Landfill Sites points
This dataset shows the point location historic landfill sites that are held in NRWs permitting database and have been issues under the EPR. These are landfill sites which have been taken off the Authorised Landfill Sites points dataset when the waste licence status changes to either: - Licence expired: Some licences issued under the Control of Pollution Act 1974 were time limited and expired on the date specified in the licence. - Licence Revoked: Whereby the licence has been entirely revoked and is no longer in force; or - Licence Surrendered: Operator has successfully surrendered the licence which is no longer in force. This dataset should be used in conjunction with the Historic Landfill Sites boundaries dataset to get full view of Historic landfill sites in Wales as this dataset does not include landfills that were registered with Local Authorities. This dataset aims to help fulfil our statutory responsibility to Local Planning Authorities by supplying information on the risks posed by landfill sites for development within 250 m. The data is the most comprehensive and consistent national historic landfill dataset and defines the location of, and provides specific attributes for, known historic (closed) landfill sites, i.e. sites where there is no PPC permit or waste management licence currently in force.

The location of these sites come from NRWs permitting database. The dataset describes where the sites were located, when they were used, who used them and what was deposited. This data is a subset of information from NRWs permitting database. The dataset includes waste and installation permits that fall into the following categories. • A1: Co-Disposal Landfill Site; • A2: Other Landfill Site taking Special Waste; A4: Household, Commercial and Industrial Waste Landfill; • A5: Landfill taking Non-Biodegradable Wastes; • A6: Landfill taking other wastes; • A7: Industrial Waste Landfill (Factory cartilage); • 5.2 A(1) a): Waste Landfilling; >10T/D with capacity>25,000T excluding inert waste; • 5.2 A(1) b): Waste Landfilling; • Any other Landfill to which the 2002 regulations apply; • L04: Non Hazardous Landfill; • and L05: Inert Landfill. INFORMATION WARNING: This dataset only includes permits issued under the EPR. Before 1996 all landfill sites data was managed and collated by Local Authorities and this data is not included in this dataset. This dataset should be used in conjunction with the Historic Landfill Sites boundaries dataset.
