The net is hauled vertically from 40m and the methods used are designed to replicate the methods used by the Plymouth Marine Laboratory at the L4 plankton sampling station. Taxa are enumerated and recorded to various levels of taxonomic resolution depending on the group. Different taxonomists have been used throughout the time series but the data has been truncated to a standard species list. As of April 1st 2013 data is held and managed by Natural Resources Wales (NRW).
