WINS Water Quality: Constraints for Reducing Nutrient Enrichment
This dataset was created for the Welsh Information for Nature Based Solution or WINS project (Previously known as SCCAN) to identify opportunities to carry out land management interventions to increase ecosystem service delivery in a number of key policy areas. What the map shows: This map shows constraints to intervention types for reduction of excess nutrients from diffuse sources entering the water environment. The number of constraints is combined across all land management intervention types, so an area with one constraint for one type of action, and two constraints for another type of action will show as having three constraints.

How the map has been created: To create the constraints heatmap for sedimentation management, the number of different constraints coinciding in any one area has been summed for each land management intervention type; e.g. an area with two constraints to riparian planting and one constraint to hedgerow planting would show as having three constraints in total. The individual constraints considered were: habitat resoration/management change, hedgrow planing, drainage channel shelter belts and riparian woodland planting. This dataset was produced for NRW under contract by Environment Systems Ltd.

Data gaps and limitations: National Phase 1 dataset is likely out of date in many places. The model does not consider ground water The model does not consider point sources of nutrients such as sewer overflows
