The semi-resident population of bottlenose dolphins found in Cardigan Bay is one of two major coastal populations in the UK. The species is the primary feature of Cardigan Bay Special Area of Conservation (SAC), and also a qualifying feature of Pen Llŷn a'r Sarnau SAC in northern Cardigan Bay, designated under the EC Habitats Directive. The primary objective of this contract was to monitor the bottlenose dolphin population of Cardigan Bay including both Cardigan Bay SAC and the wider Cardigan Bay area.
