Marine Non Native Species (NNS) records from Natural Resources Wales (NRW) Monitoring Research and Ad-hoc Sightings ( extracted from Marine Recorder )
This dataset comprises of marine surveys undertaken by the Natural Resources Wales (NRW) (and former Countryside Council for Wales) for Marine non-native species, currently held in Marine Recorder. These datasets have been packaged for dissemination onto the NBN Gateway. The purpose of this data capture was to collate and monitor the spread of non-native species in Wales. The surveys represent on-going non-native monitoring, sightings and ad-hoc records of invasive and non-native species supplied to NRW or noted outside of other research and monitoring work. This published dataset is kept separate from other species survey data provided by NRW, to allow it to be updated more often. This data will contribute to the information already available in the UK non native species portal.

Incidental records taken as part of the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) Phase 1 Intertidal Survey were recorded as part of a timed count. The surveys related to invasive species around Welsh marinas are part of an on-going rapid assessments for presence/absence of marine Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) in Welsh marinas. Assessments were conducted by visual inspection of the entire marina and associated structures from the surface followed by snorkel surveys where non-natives were observed or where native biota composition suggested that marina habitat was amenable to non-native colonisation. Some surveys (such as those monitoring Chinese Mitten Crabs include both ad-hoc recording and fyke netting techniques.
