Results from the most recent Otter Survey of Wales (Jones, 2004) show that otter signs were found within the Welsh part of the Wye catchment at 92% of sites searched. Whilst these signs are a useful indicator of otter distribution, they shed little light on otter breeding. The ability to monitor breeding activity and breeding sites in the catchment is crucial if the species and its habitats are to be maintained in a Favourable Conservation Status. The purpose of this data capture was to assess the current and potential breeding success of the otter within the Wye catchment.
