This dataset presents the findings of an investigation into the condition of key habitats in selected management units within the Berwyn and South Clwyd Mountains candidate Special Area of Conservation (cSAC). The purpose of this data capture was to determine the extent, distribution and condition of the dry heath and blanket bog habitats.

In the first phase of the project the targeted vegetation types were mapped, the principal output being a digital map of regions distinguished according to both habitat type and condition class. Following this, a second phase of the project involved setting up a series of baseline plots, expressed as regular rectangular grids with equally spaced sampling stations. These plots serve the purpose of assessing whether the sampled vegetation currently meets condition targets in relation to a selected set of performance criteria, and also will serve to assist in long-term monitoring of changes in the habitat condition.
