Project Partners include The North Wales Fisherman's Cooperative Limited, Bangor Mussel Producers Limited and The Welsh Federation of Sea Anglers. The project sets out to inform the sustainable management of the Welsh marine environment by collecting and mapping fishing activity and subsequently combining this with information on seabed habitats and their sensitivity to such activities. The purpose of this data capture was to examine the spatial extent of fishing activities and the determine the habitats affected by different fishing gear types in an area around Anglesey. Confidence in the data used for habitat types varied depending on the source of the data. The data represents 31 different habitats, and also a mosaic of rock and sediment. The latter is identified by a dominant habitat in the mosaic, so that appropriate sensitivity scores could be applied. The data attributes include a Confidence Level, which indicates the confidence in the spatial extent and location of a particular habitat. For the purposes of FishMap Mon the Confidence levels have been reassigned as Poor, Fair and Good (Very Poor and Poor being merged). FishMap Mon was undertaken as a pilot project giving a general indication of where a limited amount of fishing activity is thought to have occurred at a given time, and its expected impact on marine habitats. This fishing effort dataset was a snap shot in time and may not be representative of current fishing practices in the study area or the rest of Wales. There is a low level of confidence in the data and trail methodology.
