Reporting of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) Contribution to the UK Network
Section 124 of the Marine and Coastal Access Act (MCA Act) requires Welsh Government to report on the extent to which they have achieved the objectives in the Act to use conservation sites to contribute to a UK network of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Initial reporting takes place in 2012 and subsequently every 6 years. The purpose of this data capture was to provide supporting information to the Welsh Government Marine Protected Areas of Wales in both the offshore and inshore marine environment. Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) have provided a report and supporting information to WG which provides an assessment of the representative and replication of the suite of Welsh MPAs, as well as a discussion of management and condition evidence to date. A copy of the data is archived at CCW as a record of the evidence provided for the initial reporting.

This data is comprised of a mixture of third party owned records and NRW records. NRW policies permits access to and release of this data under the same terms as its own data. There are no access restrictions on this data. NRW may release, publish or disseminate it freely. Part of this dataset is sensitive and restricted. The sensitive data is as follows Ostrea edulis, Palinurus elephas and Oyster Beds. Sensitive data must be kept confidential; general release is not permitted due to risk of harm to the environment or third parties. Sensitive data may only be released under an appropriate NRW Licence. Requests should be referred to NRW's Access to Information Officer. Data may be released freely if the sensitive records are removed in advance, or shown only at a coarser scale.
