Sarn Badrig Reef Sublittoral Survey 1993
This dataset contains the results of a survey aiming to trial the three main methods used to describe, biotope recognition, biotope mapping, determining species presence, determining species abundance and cost effectiveness. The three methods trialled were the BIOMAR/Roxanne methodology, the MNCR method and the Seasearch method.

Each methodology was trialled in the same area of Sarn Badrig Reef. - The BIOMAR methodology uses drop down video to interpret the acoustic data collected. Much of the Sarn Badrig reef was surveyed using the acoustic Roxanne system, and video was taken at 12 sites. Unfortunately video of only five of the sites survived however brief notes were made on the other sites before the images were lost. The video was used to describe the biotopes and the abundance of recognisable species was noted. - The Seasearch methodology is a technique designed primarily for use by amateur divers. During this survey sports divers with varying degrees of survey and identification expertise filled in a Seasearch form for each site including records of species recognised. Some species were collected for identification on the surface. - The MNCR methodology has been designed for professional diving marine biologists to obtain detailed habitat and community descriptions. MNCR forms were filled in for 6 sites and algal specimens taken for later examination where necessary. Still photographs were taken at 5 of the sites.
