During each visit two samples of stones were collected from the monitoring area using a quadrat of 25cm x 25cm. Notes of the abundance of conspicuous species were made in the immediate vicinity of the monitoring site and along a transect. Close up photographs were taken to provide extra details. Surface seawater temperatures were measured by means of a mercury thermometer. In the laboratory each stone was examined individually and attached fauna recorded. Where possible individuals were counted, but for colonial and encrusting species an alternative method was to note the presence of the species on a particular stone then count the number of stones in each sample to provide a measure of percentage occurrence. This data forms part of the Pembrokeshire Marine Species Atlas (see separate metadata entry). 6 visits were made to the site at two monthly intervals.
