Each identifiable species or groups of species and biotic or non-biotic substrate is defined as a category, the occurrence of categories in quadrats is recorded quantitatively. The abundance of categories was estimated using two methods- percentage cover of categories was estimated by systematic point counting, and counts of numbers per unit area were made of certain categories.
