Progress to March 2001 Database [A] The data on species, sediment analysis, biotope etc are recorded on paper MNCR forms and held in Marine Recorder. [B] The results are also presented in a hardcopy report format. [C] Spatial data is held as MapInfo GIS files. The grid was scaled to allow for at least five sampling stations on each of the major intertidal biotopes (this done using the 1997 Marine Intertidal Phase 1 map of the estuary). An extra 30 sample stations were added to account for 'minor' biotopes not already covered by the grid. At each sample station (saltmarsh was not sampled) sediment surface features and conspicuous species were noted. Eight cores were collected from each sample station. These were pooled and the infauna subsequently processed. The fauna present, identified to species level, were recorded on a spreadsheet as were the results of analysis of particle size characteristics of the granulomatric sample. The infaunal and granulometrc data were then processed to identify the biotopes.
