This dataset contains the result of a study into the effects of oil contamination on epipelic and epilithic microalgal communities in coastal habitats of South West Wales. Sites contaminated by the Sea Empress oil spill were compared to a nearby adjacent uncontaminated site. Purpose of this data capture was to study the effects of oil contamination on the distribution, density and abundance of epipelic and epilithic microscopic algal communities.
