Marine Habitat Video Clips Available Through YouTube
Drop down video and hand held video clips were produced to illustrate the seabed environment and its flora and fauna across Special Areas of Conservations (SACs). Edited clips have been produced in order to provide access for Natural Resources Wales' (NRWs) staff to relevant underwater video. By disseminating the data through You Tube, it becomes available to external audiences and provides an illustration of NRWs work and to increase awareness of the marine environment in Wales. These videos were produced and filmed by former Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) which is now part of NRW. The GIS Dataset shows the location of these video surveys.

The data was originally captured as part of the Across Wales Diving Monitoring Survey and the Across Wales Drop Down Video Monitoring survey as a way to assisting with condition assessment of the SACs. Hand-held video are captured using a housed underwater digital video camera, plus 2 video lights to avoid shadowing. A Sony SC100E single chip camera using mini DV format tapes was used. Towed video is captured using a Sony VX1000, in a waterproof housing and mounted on a metal frame sledge with two lights mounted either side of the camera. Laser pointers are mounted 10 cm apart on front of the housing and are used to project two red dots into the filed of view for assessment. Clips have been edited and cut down to illustrate the best examples of the habitats. All videos have been edited using Adobe Premier software to produce short clips, approximately 1 minute in length to illustrate a range of marine habitats.
