The purpose of data capture was to show the distribution of BAP priority habitats across Wales and allow statistics to be derived. Survey data initially collected between 1979 - 1997, however this dataset was compiled in February 2003. Derived from Phase 1 Terrestrial Habitat Survey and Other Datasets as required. They comprise a strongly contrasting ecological series which cover of semi-natural habitat, as well as heavily urbanised lowland coastal districts with a diverse but often severely fragmented complement of priority habitats; most LBAP areas also include substantial tracts of lowland farmland where improved agricultural grasslands predominate and wildlife habitats are scattered and often marginalised. Equally striking are variations in the extent and distribution of individual priority habitats which are represented in the majority of the Welsh LBAP areas. The confidence in this dataset is good, however the source data is now over 10 years old.
