National Vegetation Classification (NVC) Survey of Selected Woodland Proposed Sites of Special Scientific Interest (pSSSIs) in Wales (E4)
The Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) selection criteria for woodlands are based on the National Vegetation Classification (NVC), such that the best areas of each community should be represented within each Area of Search (AoS). NVC information is therefore required for pSSSls. This dataset comprises of a National Vegetation Classification (NVC) survey of woodland at 13 sites on 12 proposed Sites of Special Scientific Interest (pSSSIs) throughout Wales, covering a total of 305 ha. The purpose of this data capture was to provide consistent survey information to aid assessment of SSSI status and subsequent site-support work.

Standard woodland NVC survey methodology was used to identify Woodland communities. These communities were mapped by eye and mapped, supported by sample quadrats and target notes. Data collected by trained personnel, digitised by contractors, validated by CCW Knowledge Management Group, corrections made by contractors, validated again by CCW Knowledge Management Group, corrections made in-house in conjunction with Woodland Ecologist.
