National Vegetation Classification (NVC) survey of woodland at 171 sites (E3) on 132 Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) throughout Wales, covering a total of 3806 ha. The purpose of this data capture was to provide consistent community descriptions across the woodland SSSI series as fundamental site-support information.

CCW commissioned survey contributes to a NVC Woodland Surveys collation. Standard woodland NVC survey methodology was used, which means communities were identified by eye and mapped, supported by sample quadrats and target notes. Data was collected by trained personnel, digitised by contractors, validated by CCW Knowledge Management Group, corrections made by contractors, validated again by CCW Knowledge Management Group, corrections made in-house in conjunction with Woodland Ecologist.
