Skomer Marine Conservation Zone ( MCZ ) - Monitoring Littoral communities Meso scale
In 2015 Skomer Marine Nature Reserve changed designation to Skomer Marine Conservation Zone (MCZ). Skomer Marine Nature Reserve (MNR) was designated in 1990. Investigation into the intertidal littoral communities around Skomer MNR. The purpose of this data capture was assess the "health" and changes occurring in the intertidal communities and investigating climate change effects.

The intertidal communities are surveyed annually using fixed and random quadrats. Fixed quadrats use cell frequency counts to record the community as a whole. All species are recorded along with specific methods for: Limpets, Barnacles, Lichens, cling fish and Trochids. Random 5cm quadrats are used to record barnacle species ratios. Random 20cm quadrats to record barnacle % cover and limpet abundance. Random 50cm quadrats to record limpet species ratios. Middle shore limpets are measured. Timed searches for Osilinus lineata, Littorina saxatilis and Cling Fish. Extensive photographs are taken as well to provide a visual record of the shores. MarClim methodology is used at 3 of the sites.
