Grazing Marsh Phase 1 Habitat Data (Derived from Phase 1 Terrestrial Habitat Survey)

This is a spatial dataset based on the Habitats of Wales Phase 1 data (1979-1997) it shows updated phase 1 polygons for Grazing Marsh and Floodplain Grasslands for Wales extracted from the all Wales Phase 1 digitisation. This was used to produce an inventory of the priority UK Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) habitat grazing marshes and flood plains for all Wales see metadata entry 99333.

Lineage: Extracted from the all Wales digitisation of the 1979 to 1997 Phase 1 data. OS Landline was used as a backdrop and polygons were captured individually. The data was clipped against the site boundaries layer (see separate metadata entry). This dataset supersedes the original grazing marsh phase 1 data taken from the Inventory and Review of Grazing Marsh and Floodplain Grasslands. Due to lack of base-mapping and logistics the original boundaries were traced as contiguous habitat blocks onto tracing paper, then captured by scans using a raster to vector conversion tool, resulting in spatial accuracy implications. This updated dataset has improved significantly on the accuracy of the original.
