Met Office Wave Height - Hindcast Extract (3rd Party Data)
Met Office have developed a wave modelling to develop and maintain wave forecasts of sea state. These wave models have been used as a tool to predict the sea state and wave height which can then be applied to coastal overtopping and flooding. The forecast model for Wales has been developed from using three locations around the coastline of Wales (North, South and West). From these three locations, NRW have collected observed data and the following parameters are collected. The data stored in the archive consists of the following information: dir: Wave Mean Direction (degree) hs: Significant Wave Height (m) tm: Mean Period Tm01 (s) NRW have stored this information for all of the offshore locations in Wales for the period 2006 – 2020.

Met office Wave Model aims to represent how wind energy and other atmospheric process to determine how it influences the sea surface. This provides the forecaster information on how the energy is transferred to the sea surface and the formation of waves. Observational data can then be fed into the model and be used to forecast wave height and determine any risk present to coastal communities.
