The NAEI is funded by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government and the Northern Ireland Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs. Natural Resources Wales (NRW) obtains the spatial layers from some of the datasets associated with the NAEI under licence from Defra. NRW only gets the Wales area for the majority of the dataset, the acception being the Defra air quality management areas (2015).
