Acoustic Multibeam Echosounder Survey of Ramsey Sound, Pembrokeshire November 2008 (3rd Party Data)
A multibeam bathymetric survey was commissioned by Longdin and Browning Ltd, and carried out by Clydeside Surveys Ltd, to carry out a cable route survey in Ramsey Sound, Pembrokeshire. This was carried out to assist the planning of a cable route and any further survey work. The main objectives of the survey were to provide the following: - Accurate and repeatable Bathymetric survey - Acoustic imaging of the seabed to identify seabed features. The most important aspect of this survey was to obtain accurate bathymetric survey data, over the entire survey area and also to check the digital imaging data for changes in seabed type.

The following equipment were used during the survey. PA c/w Hypack + HySweep Navigation Software: The software used for data collection whilst online and for post processing. CodaOctopus F185+ Motion Reference Unit (MRU) and Gyro system: The MRU is mainly used to compensate the multibeam system for Roll, Pitch and Heave. Steel Calibration Tape, Reson 7125 swathe echosounding system, Seabird SBE 19 CTD and Odom DigiBar Pro SV probe were also used. Surveys were carried out around Ramsey Sound. Once the multibeam surveys were completed the post processing was carried out. The survey data was inspected to ascertain where the seabed consists of general groups of materials defined as follows [these definitions are intended as a guide only and do not form part of a Geophysical or geotechnical investigation or analysis. Sand - This could consist of any sediment, from Silt to Gravels. Sand / Stones - This indicates area where the seabed is mainly Sand but is also littered, sometimes sparsely and sometime heavily by Stones and Boulders. Stones / Rock - These areas indicate that the seabed possibly consists of Rock outcropping at the surface which is littered with Stones and broken Rock fragments. Rock - this indicates where Rock is outcropping at the surface.
