Cadw: Historic Parks and Gardens (3rd Party Data)
This is a third party spatial dataset owned by Cadw, who are the Welsh Governments historic environment services working for an accessible and well-protected historic environment for Wales. Wales has a rich inheritance of historic parks and gardens. They form an important and integral part of the historic and cultural fabric of the country. Starting in 1992, CADW has undertaken a comprehensive survey of historic parks and gardens in Wales. Parks and gardens thought to be of national importance have been included in the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales and this dataset contains the digitised boundaries for the areas included in the Register. The register was compiled in order to aid the informed conservation of historic parks and gardens by owners, local planning authorities, developers, statutory bodies and all concerned with them. The majority of Registered Historic Parks and Gardens depictions in this dataset have been digitised using original hardcopy map depictions. We believe the digital dataset to provide an accurate depiction, however, if you wish to see a copy of the original, legally definitive, map please contact the Historic Environment Service (Cadw). The current depictions of Registered Historic Parks and Gardens can comprise a number of components including: The Park Boundary The Garden Boundary The Kitchen Garden Boundary Essential Settings Significant Views Please note that when the dataset is downloaded in an ESRI shapefile format, each of the above components will be available as separate shapefiles. All of the shapefiles are to be used, as combined they form the Registered Historic Parks and Gardens GIS dataset for Wales.
